I had a wonderful and informative meeting with Step Up Parents. This impressive non profit was created to offer financial assistance to kinship caregivers and their families because Even Heroes Need a Hand. There are over 12,000 grandparents raising grandchildren in New Hampshire. Many of the kinship families are a result of a parent’s struggle with substance use disorder. With the explosion of the opioid crisis, relatives are stepping up to care for children in record numbers, while also dealing with their loved one’s substance misuse or untimely drug related death.
