With daylight hours growing shorter and autumn fast approaching, Gunstock is saying farewell to summer with one last family-friendly, blowout celebration. A dozen food trucks offering a wide variety of culinary options will serve as the centerpiece for this afternoon of festivities. Summer Send-Off revelers can quench their thirst with a selection of popular beverages from the Festival Beer Garden. Live music provided by Slack Tide will fill the fresh mountain air with sounds inspired by the Grateful Dead, Phish, and the `90s ska movement. Founded in 2015 by Berklee College of Music student Chris Cyrus, Slack Tide was formed as a vehicle to experiment with improvisation and blending uncommon genres. The Tide quickly became popular in Boston’s basement scene and shifted gears to refine their sound. When Cyrus returned home to New Hampshire, he brought the Slack Tide sound with him to new audiences in the music festival scene. From dingy dorm rooms to festival main stages and everything in between, the Tide is rising fast, and is ideal for accompanying a celebration centered around eating, drinking and family fun that will include Cow Patty Bingo, a foam party, a dunk tank, ax throwing, face painting and more. Another highlight of the festival will be a pre-season sale at Gunstock Ski & Sport.
Gunstock’s Adventure Park will be operating for thrill-seeking festival attendees. On the softer side of adventure, a scenic chairlift ride to the top of the mountain on the Panorama chairlift accommodates one to four passengers on each chair. At the summit, guests can wander around on their own, enjoy the amazing views of Lake Winnipesaukee and the beautiful White Mountains beyond, then make the return trip whenever they like.
Also ranking among the resort’s tamer adventures, Gunstock’s Mountain Coaster is a roller-coaster-like experience on an open toboggan that can accommodate a single passenger or two riders. Anticipation builds as the cart climbs uphill and eventually yields to gravity for an exciting ride through curves and bank turns that follow the mountain’s natural contours, varied with steep sections with twisters and camelbacks. Unlike a traditional roller coaster, independent speed is controlled by operating a brake lever throughout the descent.
For greater thrills, Gunstocks’ popular ZipTour fits the bill. Visitors soar above the trees from peak to peak, and peak to base, traveling over a combined 1.6 miles on one of the longest zipline tours in the continental United States. This hour-and-a-half-plus excursion is a journey through nature with an adrenaline rush. Participants can control their speed using a brake or let it rip and approach speeds nearing 70 mph.
Constructed among the trees, Gunstock’s Aerial Treetop Adventure is New England's largest aerial obstacle course. A total of 90 varied challenges are securely suspended within the trees in eight high ropes courses, including the Explorer Course just for kids. Some examples of the features include log ladders, swinging bridges, seesaws, and, of course, ziplines. Participants are fitted with safety harnesses and provided with belay system training at the start of their treetop quest.
Camping season at Gunstock is still underway, so festival-goers can make a long weekend of the Food Truck Festival. Gunstock Mountain Resort's campground places guests in the heart of New Hampshire's Lakes Region, close to the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee and nestled at the base of the Belknap Mountains. Wooded and field sites with fire rings and picnic tables serve as home base for guests who enjoy overnight accommodations in a natural setting with easy access to amenities: a camp store, swimming pool, dog park, bath houses, hiking and biking trails, a fishing pond, and Gunstock’s Adventure Park. Gunstock campers receive a discount on Adventure Park activities during their stay.
